The Indianapolis 500 is the world’s largest one day sporting event with 400,000 fans in attendance. In 2005 I collaborated with Bill McGathy Promotions, Republic Records, and The Indianapolis Motor Speedway to create the first of its kind – a live performance from rock band 3 Doors Down during the pre-race ceremonies (including driver introductions) broadcast worldwide on ABC Television.
By leveraging our radio station festival where 3 Doors Down performed a day earlier, we were able to offer the band enormous TV exposure and provide them with a memorable VIP experience. Connecting brands with events requires a “think big” mindset.
